Chandler Bing (Friends)- ISFJ Nurturer (Introverted Sensing Feeling Judging)
ISFJs are among the most loyal and family oriented of the types, they love family and can provide well for them. They can make very good counselors, and may possess an excellent empathetic understanding of others. ISFJs can be exceptionally sympathetic to other people’s problems and very supportive and non-condemning.
Generally easy-going and light-hearted, ISFJs have a great sense of humor and timing. They are often great storytellers. ISFJs may waver between sarcasm and silliness, but they will always have your back. They are fiercely loyal and are first-responders when their loved ones are in need. They are attentive, caring, and stable. They form strong loyalties personally rather than institutionally.
ISFJs stick to the tried and true. They like familiar or ‘safe’ things, and tend to resist change, preferring to stick to the known and constant. However, ISFJs are more likely to try new things if they’re with a person they know. Thus in this setting, the friend becomes a “known” or constant factor.
Ross Geller (Friends)- INTJ Scientist (Introverted Intuitive Thinking Judging)
INTJ personalities radiate self-confidence, relying on their huge archive of knowledge spanning many different topics and areas. INTJs usually begin to develop that knowledge in early childhood (the “bookworm” nickname is quite common among INTJs) and keep on doing that later on in life. The independent and individualistic INTJ manner appears early in life. The life of the mind is very important to them.
When someone with the INTJ personality has mastered their chosen area of knowledge, they can quickly and honestly say whether they know the answer to a specific question. INTJs know what they know and more importantly – they are confident in that knowledge. INTJs are very decisive, original and insightful – these traits push other people to accept the INTJ’s ideas simply because of that sheer willpower.
INTJs find it very difficult to handle romantic relationships, especially in their earliest stages. People with this personality type are more than capable of loving and taking care of the people close to them, but they are likely to be completely clueless when it comes to attracting a partner.
Rachel Green (Friends)- ESFP Entertainer (Extraverted Sensing Feeling Perceiving)
ESFPs love communicating with other people and can spend hours upon hours chatting about various topics. Almost every ESFP loves to talk. There is no clearer tell-tale of an ESFP than the fact that someone has just spent the last hour talking about everything but the topic that was supposed to be the main reason for the conversation.
Because of their highly social nature, they are especially lively when they are the center of attention and hate being alone. ESFPs are focused on enjoying life and connecting with those around them. They use all of their senses to absorb details about the people and their environment, and are often able to sense other people’s needs and emotions. ESFPs enjoy getting to know people, and value shared experiences, in particular.
Joey Tribbiani (Friends)- ESFP Performer (Extraverted Sensing Feeling Perceiving)
ESFPs love people, and everybody loves an ESFP. One of their greatest gifts is their general acceptance of everyone. They are upbeat and enthusiastic, and genuinely like almost everybody. An ESFP is unfailingly warm and generous with their friends, and they generally treat everyone as a friend.
ESFPs lead what might look like “a charmed existence,’ even when things are not going well for them. They live with the idea that “the glass is half full” and seem to land on their feet, even when they are not sure how. ESFPs bring a liveliness to a groups to which they belong.
Phoebe Buffay (Friends)- INFP Dreamer (Introverted Intuitive Feeling Perceiving)
INFPs never seem to lose their sense of wonder. One might say they see life through rose-colored glasses. It’s as though they live at the edge of a looking-glass world where mundane objects come to life, where flora and fauna take on near-human qualities.
INFPs are perhaps the most idealistic of all personality types, believing that people are inherently good and everyone should do their best to fight evil and injustice in the world. Healers have a profound sense of idealism that comes from a strong personal sense of right and wrong. They conceive of the world as an ethical, honorable place, full of wondrous possibilities and potential goods.
Monica Geller (Friends)- ESFJ Caregiver (Extraverted Sensing Feeling Judging)
ESFJs enjoy being in charge. They see problems clearly and delegate easily, work hard and play with zest. The ESFJ takes their responsibilities very seriously, and is very dependable. They value security and stability, and have a strong focus on the details of life. They see before others do what needs to be done, and do whatever it takes to make sure that it gets done. They enjoy these types of tasks, and are extremely good at them.
Friendships matter a great deal to ESFJs, and their conversations with friends often touch on good times from years past. Family traditions are also sacred to them, and they carefully observe birthdays and anniversaries.
ESFJs take it upon themselves to insure the health and welfare of those in their care. They are very giving people, who get a lot of their personal satisfaction from the happiness of others. They want to be appreciated for who they are, and what they give. They’re very sensitive to others, and freely give practical care.

How I Met Your Mother Character MBTI Types
Lily Aldrin (How I Met Your Mother)- INFP Healer/Dreamer (Introverted Intuitive Feeling Perceiving)
INFPs, more than other Intuitive Feeling types, are focused on making the world a better place for people. Their primary goal is to find out their meaning in life. What is their purpose? How can they best serve humanity in their lives? They are idealists and perfectionists, who drive themselves hard in their quest for achieving goals for themselves.
INFPs are highly intuitive about people. They rely heavily on their intuitions to guide them, and use their discoveries to constantly search for value in life. They are on a continuous mission to find the truth and meaning underlying things.
Generally thoughtful and considerate, INFPs are good listeners and put people at ease. Although they may be reserved in expressing emotion, they have a very deep well of caring and are genuinely interested in understanding people. This sincerity is sensed by others, making the INFP a valued friend and confidante.
Marshall Eriksen (How I Met Your Mother)- ENFP Advocate (Extraverted Intuitive Feeling Perceiving)
ENFPs are both “idea” people and “people” people, who see everyone and everything as part of a whole. They want to both help and be liked and admired by other people, on both an individual and a humanitarian level. This is rarely a problem for the ENFP, as they are outgoing and warm, and genuinely like people. Some ENFPs have a great deal of zany charm, which can ingratiate them to more stodgy types in spite of their unconventionality.
ENFPs often have strong, if sometimes surprising, values and viewpoints. ENFP personalities are usually characterized by high levels of enthusiasm, especially when it comes to things that spark their imagination– in such cases, ENFPs can be very energetic and convincing, able to easily convince other people to join their cause.
Robin Scherbatsky (How I Met Your Mother)- ISTP Crafter/Mechanic (Introverted Sensing Thinking Perceiving)
ISTPs are adventurous and independent. They like to figure out how things work. They live in the “here and now” which makes them adaptable and spontaneous. They like to keep busy and are action-oriented.
People with the ISTP personality type possess many interesting traits that can easily baffle outsiders. They are usually very rational and logical, but can also surprise everybody by suddenly becoming more spontaneous and enthusiastic. While most other types tend to be easily recognizable and have clearly outlined traits, this is definitely not the case with ISTPs– even people who know them well may not be able to anticipate their reaction to something.
Barney Stinson (How I Met Your Mother)- ENTP Vision…(wait for it)…ary (Extraverted Intuitive Thinking Perceiving)
“Clever” is the word that describes ENTPs best.
ENTPs are usually verbally as well as cerebrally quick, and generally love to argue—both for its own sake, and to show off their debating skills. ENTPs tend to have a perverse sense of humor as well, and enjoy playing devil’s advocate. This sometimes confuses, even angers, those who don’t understand or accept the concept of argument as a sport.
ENTPs are as innovative and ingenious at problem-solving as they are at verbal gymnastics; on occasion, however, they manage to outsmart themselves. ENTPs can be prone to “sharp practice” – especially cutting corners without regard to the rules if it’s expedient – or, their juggling acts may simply be so over-ambitious they collapse.
ENTPs are usually very direct and honest. They do not really care about being seen as sensitive or compassionate, so their honesty may be quite brutal sometimes. ENTPs say what they think and do not mince their words – furthermore, they dislike people who try to beat around the bush. The best approach in communicating with an ENTP is to be straightforward. No games – they’ll win. Consequently, ENTPs tend to be respected, but not necessarily liked.
Ted Mosby (How I Met Your Mother)- ISFJ Protector/Nurturer (Introverted Sensing Feeling Judging)
ISFJs are traditional, loyal, quiet and kind. They are very sensitive to other people’s needs because they are very observant. They have rich inner thoughts and emotions. They value stability and cultural norms. They are very adept at giving attention to detail.
They constantly take in information about people and situations that is personally important to them, and store it away. This tremendous store of information is usually startlingly accurate, because the ISFJ has an exceptional memory about things that are important to their value systems. It would not be uncommon for the ISFJ to remember a particular facial expression or conversation in precise detail years after the event occurred.
